These paintings are all one of a kind original encaustic paintings. Encaustic painting is a mixed media technique. Using molten beeswax with natural pigments. The liquid/paste is then applied to a wooden board The term is derived from Greek, meaning burning in. The physical process of encaustic painting is like an alchemist's metamorphoses and the images emerge from the magical process using fire to paint with. Kathleen is inspired by the beautiful landscapes and colors of West Kerry she that is part of her everyday life.
Born in Portsmouth to an Irish Father. Kathleen studied at Camberwell School of Art in London doing a BA in Fine Art Painting. She has exhibited in London galleries and won first prize in a national student painting competition. Kathleen has sold paintings to private collectors, and to the British government art collection.
For the past 25 years, Kathleen has focused on her Millinery business in Castlegregory. Now with a dedicated studio, the time is right to start painting again.
