"Maullagh moor" 2020 an original encaustic painting
This comes from her recent trips to Sligo and beyond
I was very inspired by the new landscapes of Sligo and beyond the area is steeped in history and beautiful from ancient monuments to magnificent seascapes huge mountain and ancient burial sites but still very has a very modern and vibrate culture.
These paintings are all one-of-a-kind original encaustic paintings. Encaustic painting is a mixed media technique. Using molten beeswax with natural pigments. The liquid/paste is then applied to a wooden board The term is derived from Greek, meaning burning in. The physical process of encaustic painting is like an alchemist's metamorphoses and the images emerge from the magical process using fire to paint with. Kathleen is inspired by the beautiful landscapes and colors of West Kerry she that is part of her everyday life.
